The Journey Back to Fitness: Overcoming Sickness Through Exercise

Getting back into exercise after illness can be challenging, but it’s a crucial step toward regaining health and strength. One fitness enthusiast recently shared their personal journey of returning to exercise after feeling sick for several days.

“I have been feeling sick for some days, I have not really exercised and I did not do any good for my system,” they explained. “Not exercising did not help me, but made my body to be stiff. I tried to stretch, even the back of my legs, my ankles, my toes, everything pained me because of lack of exercise.”

The fitness journey documented shows a clear progression from feeling unwell to gradually rebuilding stamina. Just two days prior, they were unable to sustain even five minutes of jogging, but now they’re back to more sustained cardio sessions.

Mental Determination in Fitness

A key aspect of returning to fitness is mental determination and taking control of your body rather than letting discomfort dictate your actions.

“It is very hard to dress nice, but very easy to gain weight. Very hard to lose weight. Very easy to get weight. All you need to do is to push your body. You force it. Not letting your body control you – you control your body,” they advised.

This philosophy extends to nutrition as well: “Control your mouth. That’s why when you feel like eating a snack, you say, ‘No, I will not eat today. I will exercise instead.’ Just go ahead. Control your mouth. Control your belly.”

Starting Small and Building Up

The fitness enthusiast emphasized that you don’t need to be a professional to begin exercising. Starting with what you can manage is the key:

“We need to exercise anyhow we can. We must not be professional. You must not lift 100 pounds. Just start by lifting 10 pounds, 5 pounds. If you cannot lift 10 pounds, just little by little, we are going to be fine.”

Their own limits are acknowledged openly – currently using speed settings of up to seven on their treadmill, compared to nine previously, and noting that the highest setting of 12 remains a future goal as weight loss progresses.

The Importance of Health in Achievement

Perhaps most poignantly, they highlighted how fundamental health is to accomplishing any goals: “Your health is what? When you are in good health, you can achieve. It’s only when you cannot do certain things that you cannot achieve your goals.”

This progressive return to exercise shows how resilience and consistency can help overcome setbacks. By starting small, acknowledging limitations, and gradually building stamina, it’s possible to return to fitness even after illness or extended breaks.
