The Importance of Consistent Exercise: Returning to Fitness After Illness
Returning to exercise after being sick can be challenging, but it’s crucial for regaining strength and overall health. This was the experience shared during a recent workout livestream where the host described their journey back to fitness after several days of illness.
“I have been feeling sick for some days, I have not really exercised and I did not do any good for my system,” they explained, noting how the lack of physical activity had negative effects. “Not exercising did not help me, but made my body to be stiff. I tried to stretch, even the back of my legs, my nails, my toes, everything pained me. Because of lack of exercise.”
The Challenge of Weight Management
During the livestream, the host emphasized a truth many fitness enthusiasts acknowledge: “It is very hard to exercise but very easy to get weight. Very hard to lose weight, very easy to get weight.” This observation highlights one of the fundamental challenges in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The solution, according to the host, involves discipline and self-control: “All you need to do is to push your body, you force it. Not letting your body control you… Control your mouth. That’s why you feel like it is a shower. You say no, I will not eat today shower. I will exercise just go ahead and control your mouth. Control your belly. Control your cranny. Control everything. And then force your body to move.”
Building Back Gradually
An important message conveyed during the session was the value of starting small and building gradually. “We must not lift 100 pounds… Just start by lifting 10 pounds, 5 pounds… Little by little we are going to be fine,” the host advised.
The livestream itself demonstrated this principle, with the host jogging lightly to rebuild stamina. “If it was yesterday I cannot sustain this jogging for five minutes,” they admitted, showing how quickly progress can be made with consistent effort.
The Connection Between Health and Achievement
Perhaps most poignantly, the host emphasized the connection between physical health and achievement: “When you are in good health, you can achieve. It’s only when you cannot do certain things that you cannot achieve your goals. That is why we need to run, we need to exercise anyhow we can.”
By the end of the 20-minute session, the host was already noticing improvements: “I’m sweating now. I was cold before, but now I’m sweating… My energy level is coming back.”
This experience serves as a reminder of how quickly the body can respond to renewed physical activity, even after a period of illness and inactivity. The key is to begin again, however modestly, and build consistently from there.
