The Power of Pushing Through: Regaining Health Through Exercise

Recovery from illness often requires more than just rest. Sometimes, getting our bodies moving again is exactly what we need to regain our strength and vitality. This principle was demonstrated recently by a fitness enthusiast who shared their journey of pushing through sickness to restore their health through exercise.

After feeling unwell for several days and experiencing stiffness throughout their body due to lack of movement, they decided to take action. “I have been feeling sick for some days, I have not really exercised and I did not do any good for my system,” they explained. The lack of physical activity had led to pain in various parts of their body, including their legs, back, and even toes.

Despite still experiencing symptoms like headache and nasal congestion, they were determined to begin the recovery process through a short workout. “My head is aching, my nose is growing, but I will be fine,” they stated with conviction.

Mind Over Matter

One of the key insights shared during the workout was the importance of mental discipline in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. “It is very hard to lose weight, but very easy to gain weight,” they noted, emphasizing that success requires controlling your impulses and making conscious choices.

“All you need to do is to push your body. You force it. Not let your body control you,” they advised. “Control your mouth. When you feel like eating a snack, you say, no. Control your lungs. Control your belly. Control everything. And then force your body to move.”

Gradual Progress

The workout session also highlighted the importance of starting small and building gradually. Not everyone needs to lift heavy weights or engage in intense professional-level training right away. “We must not lift 100 pounds. Just start by lifting 10 pounds, 5 pounds,” they suggested.

This gradual approach was evident in their own routine as well. They used a treadmill with various settings, noting that they currently stick to speed level 7 rather than the maximum 12, which they had used in the past. “When I lose weight I’ll start running 10… But now I can do up to seven but not 10.”

The Recovery Journey

The improvement in their condition was noticeable even during this short session. “If it was yesterday, I could not sustain this jogging for five minutes. If it was two days ago, that was the worst,” they remarked, clearly pleased with their progress.

By the end of the workout, they had burned nearly 200 calories and could feel their energy returning. “My energy level is coming back,” they concluded triumphantly.

This experience serves as a powerful reminder that sometimes, the path to recovery involves pushing ourselves to move rather than simply resting. While rest is certainly important during illness, carefully reintroducing physical activity can often accelerate healing and help restore both physical and mental wellbeing.
