The Journey Back to Fitness: Overcoming Sickness and Reclaiming Health

Returning to exercise after illness can be challenging, but it’s a crucial step in regaining overall wellness. This was demonstrated clearly in a recent fitness livestream where the participant shared their experience of coming back to exercise after several days of feeling unwell.

“I have been feeling sick for some days, I have not really exercised and I did not do any good for my system,” they explained. “Not exercising did not help me, but made my body to be stiff. I tried to stretch, even the back of my legs, my knees, my toes, everything pained me. Because of lack of exercise.”

The Importance of Pushing Through

Despite still experiencing symptoms including neck pain, headache, and nasal congestion, they made the decision to begin exercising again. This determination highlights an important aspect of fitness recovery – sometimes you need to gently push your body back into motion.

“It’s not easy. But you are going to force it,” they advised viewers. The workout began with jogging at a manageable pace, allowing them to gauge their energy levels while gradually building back strength.

Weight Management Insights

During the session, they shared some candid thoughts on weight management: “It is very hard to lose weight. Very easy to get weight. All you need to do is to push your body. You force it. Not letting your body control you. Control your body.”

This philosophy extends to dietary choices as well. “Control your mouth. That’s when you feel like it is a shawarma. You say no. I will not eat today shawarma. I will exercise.”

Adapting Exercise to Current Ability

An important aspect of sustainable fitness is working within your current capabilities. The streamer mentioned adjusting the speed settings on their equipment based on their current weight and fitness level.

“When I lose weight, I’ll start running 10 because that way you have to pop up. If I put it now, I will fall because of my weight. But I used to put seven, I used to put up to seven. Before, I used to put up to nine.”

Progress and Persistence

By the end of the session, they had burned nearly 200 calories and noted that their energy levels were returning. The improvement from previous days was evident: “Because yesterday I cannot sustain this jogging for five minutes. No stop five minutes jogging.”

This gradual improvement demonstrates the value of consistency and patience when returning to fitness after illness. As they reminded viewers: “Your health is what? When you are in good health, you can achieve. It’s only when you cannot do certain things that you cannot achieve your goals.”

Starting Small

Perhaps most importantly, they emphasized that fitness doesn’t require professional-level intensity from the beginning: “We must not be professional as well. You must not lift 100 pounds. Just start by lifting 10 pounds, 5 pounds. So if you cannot lift 10 pounds, just little by little we are going to be fine.”

This approach of starting small and building gradually is essential for sustainable fitness progress, especially when recovering from illness or beginning a new fitness journey.
